Consumed

The woods are aflame with autumn. Lemon yellows, burnt oranges, luminescent reds glazed with pink. Grasses bend amber, wave gold. Leaves drift and swirl on invisible eddies of warm air.

I search for words of praise, but find I am speechless. Instead, I close my eyes and become a wisp on the wind. Diving past the neighbor's dog, a near collision, then on again over the grey house... now flying with sparrows. Something inside me feels like fire, a sure melting, a merging with Spirit I sense in beauty. All this beauty.

Setting the world afire.

from American Beauty: "...it's hard to stay mad, when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst... And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life..."

melting and merging--union--what it's all about

I love what C.S. Lewis says somewhere: "We do not want merely to see beauty, though, God knows, even that is bounty enough. We want something else which can hardly be put into words—to be united with the beauty we see, to pass into it, to receive it into ourselves, to bathe in it, to become part of it."

Love Marcus' quote, too. Gratitude.

this is gorgeous, l.l.!

when beauty moves in real close, it does that to us ... yes ... it wants to be received inside us ... it wants to become a part of us ... so we find that we must close our eyes to see.

I was taking my daughter home from drama tonight just as the sun was begining to set.
As I was driving, I had to stop the car, I just couldn't concentrate on the road. It seemed like everything had turned with the leaves of Autumn to Pink, Orange and Yellow. It was as if the leaves were reflecting in the sky almost. so there we were me and four little girls parked up the side of the road just watching.

Beautiful writing :0)
